Laporte brings an extensive background to his role as a LIMRA consultant, where he focuses on developing distribution strategies for member companies, and the compensation systems that support them. The former head of LIMRA's Consulting practice, Laporte conducted and managed key research activities in both compensation and distribution during a career that spanned more than 25 years. He participated in — or led — many of LIMRA's key committees, including the Market Conduct and Compliance Committee and the Distribution Management Study Group. The latter addresses issues associated with applications of technology for compensation administration and distribution management.
Earlier, as director of LIMRA's Financial Research Program, Laporte developed many of LIMRA's benchmarking compensation and expense studies that are still conducted today. He was also active in the effort to pass the 1997 Modernization of Section 4228 Expense Limitation Law, serving on two subcommittees and testifying on the industry's behalf in the New York State Legislature.
A graduate of the University of Connecticut with both bachelor's and master's degrees, Laporte has authored a variety of research reports and articles on the subject of distribution and compensation. He has been a speaker at numerous industry seminars and conferences, and is the editor and contributing author of the text Marketing for Actuaries, which is part of the syllabus for the final life actuarial fellowship exam.
