  • Matthew Drinkwater, Ph.D., FSRI, FLMI, AFSI, PCS

    Drinkwater, who joined LIMRA in 1999, is Corporate Vice President and Director of Retirement Research within the LIMRA Secure Retirement Institute. He leads a team of retirement experts responsible for developing and executing the Institute’s research agenda, which covers both institutional and retail businesses.

    He has led the creation of several major studies of retirement planning, retirement income planning and management, and consumer preferences for receiving advice. Drinkwater has directed several institutional retirement research projects, including studies of asset retention and the rollover market. His research on annuities has encompassed in-depth studies of product features, buyer and owner characteristics, persistency, and living benefit utilization.

    He is a graduate of Trinity College (Hartford, CT) and received his Ph.D. in psychology from Brown University.
  • Jafor Iqbal

    Jafor Iqbal studies retirees and the role of financial advisors in retirement income planning. In this role, he leads the LIMRA Secure Retirement Institute's retirement income initiatives. His leadership and focus in retirement income has resulted in the publishing LIMRA’s 2009 and 2012 editions of The Retirement Income Reference Book, a complete mapping of the retirement income marketplace, including retirement risks and issues faced by consumers and advisors, as well as the annual LIMRA Retirement Income Fact Book.

    Prior to joining LIMRA in 2009, Iqbal was Director of Product Management at Fidelity Investments.

  • Deb Dupont

    Deb Dupont is responsible for the LIMRA Secure Retirement Institute's institutional (retirement plans) retirement research program.  She conducts and supervises research, benchmark reporting and study groups focused on the issues and trends faced by constituents of the defined contribution industry.  She also provides guidance and thought leadership in helping LIMRA's member firms better understand the opportunities available for improving delivery of institutional retirement solutions.

    Prior to joining LIMRA in 2014 Deb was the Director of ING's Retirement Research Institute (the Institute), where created, managed and published a research platform that included work focusing on multi-cultural, generational, and gender-based analyses of retirement behaviors, and also  published insights and analyses of ING's own cross-Defined Contribution (i.e. across employment sectors) participant base.    Deb's work has been recognized for effectiveness and quality by some of the most prestigious awards in the financial services and communications industries, including the Insurance and Financial Communicators' Association and the International Association of Business Communicators.  She is a graduate of the University of Connecticut.

  • Todd Giesing

    Todd joined LIMRA’s Secure Retirement Institute in 2013, and has an extensive background in individual annuity products. As Director of Annuity Research, Todd is responsible for managing the individual research program at LIMRA. He oversees the annuity benchmarking studies, and various annuity related research projects.

    Prior to joining LIMRA’s Secure Retirement Institute, Todd gained extensive knowledge in the annuity industry working as an annuity wholesaler at MetLife, and as a licensed personal banker at Wachovia Bank. He graduated from Eastern Connecticut State University with a bachelor’s degree in Accounting.

  • Sally A. Bryck

    Bryck is responsible for conducting research related to financial planning issues. She has more than 30 years of experience in consumer research, working on both U.S. and Canadian projects exploring consumers’ attitudes and decision making. Bryck directed the study and authored the report Ready, Set, Retire? Not So Fast!. She has co-authored U.S. Deferred Annuity Buyer Attitudes and Behaviors report. Bryck has also co-authored several reports jointly with the Society of Actuaries (SOA) and International Foundation for Retirement Education (InFRE).

    She is also the project director of the Individual Annuity Sales in Canada survey and the Canadian Annuity Premium by Distribution System and Province study as well as the Canadian Individual Annuity Assets and Canadian Pension Market surveys. Bryck is the staff representative of the Canadian Annuity Study Group.

    In addition, Bryck has published articles in LIMRA’s MarketFacts Quarterly, including ”Can We Turn Nonsavers Into Savers? Helping Canadians Prepare for Retirement” and "Are Pre-Retirees Thoroughly Prepared?"

    She is a graduate of the University of Connecticut.

  • Cecilia M. Shiner, FSRI, FFSI, ALMI, ACS

    Cecilia Shiner is an associate research director for the LIMRA Secure Retirement Institute. In this capacity, she is responsibility for conducting various major primary research projects for the Institute, including examinations of the retirement savings habits and attitudes of women and generational markets. She is also a staff representative on the Women’s Market Study Group.

    Prior to joining LIMRA, Cecilia was an assistant study director at the Center for Survey Research at the University of Massachusetts at Boston. She received an M.A. in applied sociology from the University of Massachusetts Boston and a B.A. in sociology from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

  • Mark Paracer

    Mark Paracer is responsible for conducting research on retirement plans. He currently is the project director on the U.S. Retirement Plans study, the 401(k) Scorecard, the Stable Value and Funding Agreement Products, and the In-plan Income Guarantees study. He also runs the Stable Value, Strategic Retirement Research Network, and the In-plan Guarantee study groups.

    Prior to joining LIMRA in 2012, he spent 15 years in a variety of roles including competitive intelligence, operations, marketing, sales, and product development in the mutual fund, life insurance, and banking industries. Mark received his B.A. in economics from the University of New Hampshire.

  • Steven E. Simonds, ACS, FLMI

    As senior analyst in the LIMRA Secure Retirement Institute, Simonds is responsible for annuity benchmarking surveys such as the LIMRA Secure Retirement Institute's quarterly U.S. Individual Annuities Participant’s Report.

    Simonds joined LIMRA’s Retirement Research department in 2013.

    Prior to joining LIMRA, Simonds consulted for VERTEX Incorporated and worked in Hartford Life’s Individual Life and Annuity Division. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in History from the University of Connecticut.
  • Teodor (Teddy) Panaitisor

    Research Analyst
    Teodor (Teddy) joined LIMRA’s Secure Retirement Institute in 2015 and is responsible for supporting the individual annuity research program, which includes assisting with benchmarking surveys and supporting the annuity contract level data reporting initiative. Prior to joining LIMRA, he earned his B.S. in Marketing and B.A. in Psychology from Central Connecticut State University (CCSU) in 2014. While at CCSU, he collaborated on various government and academic research projects developing a solid understanding for proper research methodology and statistical analysis. 
  • Eugene Noble, M.A.

    Research Analyst

    Eugene Noble is an Analyst with LIMRA's Secure Retirement Institute. In this role, he serves as project director for the Group Annuity Risk Transfer quarterly benchmarking survey and assists the unit with primary research projects. Noble joined LIMRA in June 2017. Prior to that, he earned his B.A. in psychology from Shawnee State University and his M.A. in psychology with a research methods & applied statistics concentration at Columbia University.

  • Ryan Scanlon

    Associate Research Analyst

    Ryan Scanlon is an Associate Research Analyst with the Secure Retirement Institute at LIMRA. In this role since October of 2016, his varied responsibilities include collecting, processing and analyzing data for five of the Institute’s benchmarking surveys, participating in various Retirement Plans Study Groups and providing support for primary research, social media projects, articles and research publications as needed. Before joining LIMRA, Scanlon earned his B.S. in Economics with a minor in Financial Management from Clemson University in 2016.
