Committees & Study Groups
LIMRA Retirement Committees & Study Groups
LIMRA committees provide discussion forums, networking activities, and the opportunity to help guide our research agenda. Most committees are also responsible for planning and conducting LIMRA's annual conferences. Committee involvement helps professionals keep up with industry issues while staying in touch with their peers.
Study Groups are small, issue-specific meetings that provide members with opportunities to discuss emerging industry issues, network with peers and learn from expert industry speakers. Study Groups generally meet from one to two days and are included in LIMRA membership dues.

COMMITTEES AND STUDY GROUPS
Mission: Oversee LIMRA’s annuity research program; help plan and execute the annual Annuity Conference, jointly sponsored with LOMA and the Society of Actuaries; represent the industry on issues of importance, and serve as a forum for discussion of issues/topics affecting committee members and their companies.
Target membership: Heads of annuity product line or equivalent.
Mission: The group meets to discuss annuity issues affecting committee members and their companies. The group also helps plan LIMRA's Canadian annuity research program.
Target membership: Representatives from insurers in the annuity market.
In Plan Guarantee Committee
Mission: The purpose of the Committee is to discuss issues related specifically to the development, marketing and sales of guaranteed income products made available to defined contribution plan participants through an employer-sponsored plan. As this is a new and rapidly expanding product category, the discussion will examine all aspects of product manufacture and distribution.
Target Membership: This Committee is recommended for individuals responsible for developing in-plan guaranteed income products and marketing programs. These may include the Retirement Plans, Retirement Income or Annuity businesses within their organization. Limit of three representatives per organization.
Mort Stable Value Study Group
Mission: Provide a forum for companies to exchange ideas with peers.
Target membership: Officers of member companies in the retirement plans business — primarily interested in stable value products.
Not for Profit Retirement Market Study Group
Mission: The purpose of the Study Group is to discuss the unique challenges and opportunities in the not-for-profit employer markets, including K – 12 and higher education, hospital and healthcare, the arts and other charitable organizations. The focus includes both multi-provider and single-provider plans, such as 403(b), 457, 401(k), and 401(a) plans. Areas of discussion may include distribution and service models, participant enrollment and education, loans and withdrawals, regulatory compliance, and marketing.
Target membership: This Study Group is recommended for individuals responsible for the product and/or marketing strategies in the not-for-profit retirement plans market. These may include the Product Manager, the Head of NFP product development, marketing directors, or the head of NFP client services.
Retirement Income Roundtable
Mission: To allow financial services organizations the opportunity to discuss retirement income issues and to exchange ideas. The group also helps guide LIMRA’s retirement income research program.
Target membership: Individuals responsible for developing retirement market strategy and retirement income products.
Retirement Plans Committee
Mission: The purpose of the Committee is to discuss and assess evolving business models in the retirement plan services industry. The group may periodically invite experts to provide additional insight on selected topics. Areas of discussion include distribution and service models, acquisition models, business alliances, regulatory compliance, training needs, executive development and succession planning. The group also serves as an advisory body for the LIMRA Retirement Industry Conference.
Target membership: This Committee is recommended for senior leaders within their organization’s retirement plans business unit. Membership is by invitation only.
Retirement Plans RFP and Sales Support Roundtable
Mission: The purpose of this Study Group is to discuss best practices for new business support activities, which includes responding to RFPs, wholesaler support, and financial advisor support. The objective is to increase the sales effectiveness of organizations across the industry. Topics will include RFP trends, regulatory compliance, organizational structure and staffing, training and technology.
Target membership: This Study Group is recommended for individuals within their organization’s retirement plans business unit with responsibility for the RFP, new business, or sales support teams. Limit of three representatives per organization.
Retirement Plans Study Group
Mission: The purpose of the Study Group is to discuss and assess market trends, the regulatory environment, and the potential impact of trends and regulations on products in the retirement plans market. The Study Group may periodically invite experts to provide additional insight on selected topics. Areas of discussion may include fiduciary products and services, participant education, financial advisor tools, plan administration, recordkeeping, and investment platforms.
Target membership: This Study Group is recommended for individuals responsible for product development, marketing and/or competitive intelligence within their organization’s retirement plans business. Limit of two representatives per organization.
