ATLAS Business Game

2 days

What is ATLAS Business Game?

Atlas is a strategic business game involving the management of a life insurance company.

Working in teams, participants run an established mid-sized life insurance company in a fictional market. Through the use of computer-based simulation, teams assess and then record a business strategy.

Participants have access to past performance measures and management accounts and to information about the market and the competitive environment.

The simulation is run for up to five decision years. Performance is assessed on a “Balanced Scorecard” of financial and non-financial measures, with a model to decide the winning team where appropriate.

The process involves making decisions in up to three product categories (protection, regular savings, and single premium pension) and initially two routes to market (direct sales force, independent financial advisors or brokers, as well as direct marketing available as of year two).

By exploring the operations of a life office, this program provides delegates with a better understanding of the financial drivers in the life industry and the direct impact of their role on organizational performance. As part of the examination into the impact of their role, delegates will learn how to enhance their collaboration skills to effectively interact with colleagues across disciplines, specifically: finance, marketing, and sales.

The content includes:

  • How marketing and financial disciplines interact
  • Pricing analysis and profitability
  • Understanding financial statements in the life office
  • Asset management
  • Risk and risk management
