She has a proven track record in developing and building businesses for global insurance marketing organizations and has worked in multiple markets, including Europe, Latin America and North America, where she built successful direct response insurance businesses. Janet spent most of her career with AEGON, one of the world’s largest insurance companies and most recently, worked with ReMark, a subsidiary of SCOR, as CEO of their North and Latin American business. Janet received her undergraduate degree from University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse and her XMBA from Loyola College with an emphasis on International business.

Executive Director, Regional Underwriting and Business Solutions

John Cardus, Executive Director, is a part of the Regional Underwriting and Business Solutions team, which leverages RGA’s technical capabilities to support clients in developing their strategic and operational risk management objectives. John joined RGA in 2016 and is based in Hong Kong. John has more than 25 years of underwriting experience, with roles at insurance and reinsurance companies across a number of markets in Europe and Asia. Prior to joining RGA, John worked for Swiss Re as the Head of Underwriting Australia and New Zealand for three years until 2012, when he was named Head of Global Underwriting, based in the UK. John also held other strategic underwriting roles at Swiss Re, working in the company’s Hong Kong, Tokyo and Zurich offices. Before Swiss Re, John served as Chief Underwriter for Gen Re and as Head of Underwriting for a direct insurer in the UK. An active member of the underwriting profession, John has presented at numerous industry events and is an associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute.

Manager, Business Innovation

With 36 years of IBM experience, Mark is skilled in collaborating with C-Suite executives to help manage complex transformations, integrate line of business ecosystems and communities, and support high performance sales teams. In his current role, Mark works with insurance clients to strengthen their business strategies through innovation, radical cost reduction, Robotics Process Automation (RPA), InsurTech and IT maturity models. He also advises insurers on the challenges associated with making data driven decisions, while helping them to sustain profitable growth, address domestic and global integration challenges, and create a culture of high performance and continual transformation. Prior to his current role, Mark held various roles in IBM’s Financial Services Sector Americas, and was the Chief Architect in building the Competitive and Emerging Line of Business for IBM. Mark has Bachelor of Sciences degree in Marketing from San Diego State University, received his certification in competitive strategy and industry analysis at Harvard University, and has completed executive programs at Boston University, Wharton Business School, and The Kellogg Graduate School of Management.

Peter Cashin acts for life and non-life insurers, reinsurers and private equity groups in transactions, regulatory, competition, corporate and compliance matters. Peter is based in the Hong Kong office of Kennedys and has 25 years’ experience in the Asia-Pacific insurance market, having been both a Partner in legal practice and regional/general counsel for a number of leading multinational life and general insurance organisations. Peter’s experience spans acquisitions, divestments, reorganisations including portfolio transfers, strategic alliances including bancassurance, regulatory, licensing and compliance matters, product and distribution issues and litigation management. Peter is co-author of A Q&A Guide to Insurance and Reinsurance Law in Hong Kong, PLC Cross-border Insurance Handbook 2012 to 2016.

Jun Seong Han is Senior Executive Deputy President at Hana Financial Group and Hana Bank Hana Financial Group, and widely recognized as a creative disruptor and innovator. In his prior role as Head of Future Financial Group in KEB Hana Bank and Chief Future Innovation Officer at Hana Financial Group, he was responsible for setting the innovative strategies in areas such as channel development, payment, and new global business. Under his lead, Hana Bank launched the mobile banking app 'Hana N Bank', built the platform ‘Hana Members’, which uses loyalty points to help increase and retain membership, and participated in the global blockchain consortium led by R3 CEV.

Larry Hartshorn is responsible for the development and execution of LIMRA’s international research strategy. Under his guidance, the international research unit conducts a wide variety of research to provide insights and trends in distribution, consumer behavior and sentiment, products, retirement, and technology for markets throughout the world. Prior to joining LIMRA in 2015, Larry was Aetna’s executive director for Greater China in Shanghai. His responsibilities included strategic planning, research, management operation and consulting. Larry also previously served as research program manager for The Ohio State University, managing a multi-million dollar cluster of private, state, and federal grants targeting primary, secondary, and higher education curriculum reform.

Ian Huh is Senior Vice President of SK Telecom, the #1 mobile network operator in South Korea, and currently responsible for the product marketing and business development of the company’s enterprise solution business. The range of the products he oversees encompasses IoT Network and Platform, Big Data, Cloud Services to help customers’ digital transformation. Before joining SK Telecom in 2015, he worked for 13 years at the Samsung Electronics, where he managed several product lines such as Mobile AP / Modem, Flash Memory and Solid State Drives. He also worked as a product innovation specialist at the company’s Global Marketing Operation office. Ian holds a doctoral degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, in Michigan, US, where he spent long hours at automotive factories to reduce the ramp-up time by collecting and analyzing the data from numerous machines. He also holds masters’ and bachelor’s degree in engineering from Seoul National University, Korea.

Professor Jung of Sogang Business School has worked in the financial industry(capital market & venture capital market) for 28 years. Currently, he is also serving for ‘Fintech Supporting center’ as CEO, under the Financial Services Commission. Starting off with Daewoo Economic Research Institute, Professor Jung has successively experienced many positions, as head of IB sector in Daewoo Securities, vice-president of Shinhan Financial Investment Corporation, CEO of Standard Chartered Securities, Korea, and recently CEO of Korea Venture Investment Corporation, one of Korean government agencies. Professor Jung graduated from Seoul National University(BA, Economy), Sogang(MA, economics), Wharton School(MBA), Renmin University of China(MBA), and Kyonggi University(Ph.D., economics).

Seog Young is an industry veteran who directs the Department of Financial Policy at the Korea Insurance Research Institute (KIRI). He joined KIRI in 2013 after six years with Munich Re. Before that, he worked at the Korean Insurance Development Institute and Samsung Life Insurance. Seog has worked with financial authorities on various tasks. You’ll find articles he has written in Korean Insurance Journal and Journal of Insurance Studies. He earned his Ph.D. in Mathematics at the University of Arizona.

As an economic expert, Dr. Kim is known for his strong knowledge of international affairs and deep financial market insights. In 2017, he took office as Vice Chairman of the Financial Services Commission (FSC), and concurrently holds chairmanship of the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) within the FSC. Prior to his appointment as Vice Chairman, he served as Secretary General of the FSC and Standing Commissioner of the SFC. Throughout his career, Dr. Kim has held several other key government posts, including Director of Banking System Division (Ministry of Finance and Economy), Deputy Secretary for Economic Policies (Office of the President of Korea), Director General and Head of Post Insurance Unit (Korea Post), and Director General of the Financial Policy Bureau and Capital Markets Bureau (FSC). In 2000, he left the government to work as a senior economist at the World Bank where he specialized in the Chinese economy, and in 2010, he served as Director General of Global Financial Architecture Bureau in the Presidential Committee for the G20 Seoul Summit. He graduated from Seoul National University, magna cum laude, with a bachelor’s degree in economics and received his doctorate in economics from George Washington University on a Fulbright Scholarship.

Originally a commercial pilot, Steve specializes in introducing new business models, businesses and products, and has held senior roles at leading corporations throughout Asia. He has filed six patents in FinTech, and managed an impressive list of projects throughout his career, including developing and patenting the first mobile payments platform for Citigroup, and leading a nine-month transformation of Shinsei Bank in Japan which lead to revenue growth of USD$500M. As Chief Innovation Officer for DBS Bank, Steve drove the innovation agenda that culminated in their $220+M investment in IBM Watson, DBS A*Star R&D Lab and Digital Banking. Steve also helped to build AIA Edge, Asia and Oceania's leading corporate Accelerator, making AIA the first insurance company to join the R3 blockchain consortium. Most recently, Steve created Gen.Life, a Silicon Valley based start-up that creates R&D capability for insurers in Artificial Intelligence and Blockchain. In addition to GenLife, Steve is also a Limited Partner and investment committee member in True Global Ventures, Vice Chairman of Borderless Healthcare Mobile China, Co-Chairman of HK HealthTech Association, and a Board Member of Pulse Global.

Olin Wethington is the Founder and Chairman of Wethington International LLC, an investment and business advisory firm focused on advising institutions on capital investment, financial structure and business strategy in emerging markets, particularly with respect to Asian markets. He currently also advises clients on healthcare regulatory matters in China and on strengthening the delivery of healthcare services, including an initiative under the State Council’s China Development Research Foundation which is developing recommendations regarding the expansion of commercial healthcare insurance in China. Mr. Wethington previously served as Chairman, AIG Companies in China, and has held numerous positions in the U.S. government, including: Special Envoy on China; Counselor to the Secretary of the U.S. Treasury; Assistant Secretary for International Affairs, U.S. Treasury; and Special Assistant to the President and Executive Secretary, Economic Policy Council, White House (under President George H.W. Bush). He is a graduate of Harvard Law School and the University of Pennsylvania, a Member of the Council on Foreign Relations, and a recipient of the Alexander Hamilton Award, the highest honor of the U.S. Department of the Treasury.
