Samina Akram has worked for investment, private and commercial banks, specialising in the field of Islamic and Ethical finance. She has long-established working relations with governments, Investment banks, corporate investors, trade organisations and senior industry executives. Her contribution to the Islamic finance industry has won her immense respect, public recognition and multiple business awards. She is a recipient of the United Nation’s Women’s Federation for World Peace award, was runner-up at the Women of the Future Awards in the ‘Business Women of the Future’ category, was shortlisted in the European Muslim Women of Influence list and has been recognised by the Islamic Finance Review as the 5thmost distinguished woman in Islamic finance globally. Samina more recently has been honoured with The Freeman of the City of London. Samina runs her own consultancy firm, Samak Ethical Finance Ltd based in London and is also the founder of the Women in Islamic & Ethical Finance Forum which has over 5,000 professional members from more than 20 countries.

Theodor Alexandrescu serves as General Manager for MetLife in the Gulf as of August 1st, 2014 heading the company’s operation in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain and Qatar. Theodor joined AIG on 1st January 1999. He started his career in Agency distribution in Romania and held several roles including Agency Director, Chief Marketing Officer and General Manager for Metropolitan Life in Romania, before joining Gulf in 2014.

Theodor received his Master’s Degree, Business Administration, from the Academy of Economic Studies Bucharest. He has also completed the Executive Master Degree in Business Administration from Washington University. He graduated from Gr. T. Popa University of Medicine and Pharmacy and also from Titu Maiorescu University of Law.

Robert A. Kerzner, CLU, ChFC

Robert A. Kerzner, CLU, ChFC

As president and CEO of LIMRA, LOMA and their parent organization, LL Global, Inc., Bob Kerzner leads the world’s largest association of life insurance and financial services companies. In 2010, he led the merger of LIMRA and LOMA, which together represent more than 1,200 members across 64 countries, including most of the world’s largest life insurance companies. 

Before joining LIMRA in 2004, Kerzner was executive vice president and head of the individual life division of Hartford Life, Inc. Under his leadership, the division experienced dramatic growth and record financial performance.

Kerzner is a leading voice in the life insurance, retirement and financial services industry, recently speaking at events held by the Department of Treasury’s Federal Insurance Office (FIO), the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), and Life Insurance Commission of New York (LICONY).  He is regularly sought out by leading national publications, like the Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, and USA Today, as well as a host of trade and other business media outlets, to provide insight into industry issues and trends.

Kerzner is a graduate of Central Connecticut State University.

Alexander has more than 20 years of industry experience. During his career he held the following positions: founder and President of a brokerage company — Asekuracja II, President of the companies belonging to Gras Savoye Group, President of Gras Savoye Ukraine. Member of numerous organizations and institutions related to economy and the insurance sector including: Polish Association of Insurance and Reinsurance Broker, CEO Round Table, International Assistance Group, Polrisk Association, French Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Polish Chamber of Insurance and Finance Intermediaries. Frequently acts as an expert in the field of insurance during numerous trainings and conferences as well as in the media. Graduated from Business University and International Affairs, IESE Business School, University of Navarra, Barcelona, Warsaw University of Technology, Faculty of Civil Engineering.

Jags Rao joined Swiss Re in 2015 as the Solutioning Lead for Strategic Initiatives at Swiss Re Global Business Solutions in Bangalore, India where he helped form Swiss Re’s first ever start-up accelerator program. In April 2016, he joined Swiss Re in Zürich with the mandate to drive Swiss Re’s strategic agenda on blockchain. He was instrumental in the launch of B3i — Blockchain Insurance Industry Initiative — where Swiss Re continues to play an important role in shaping the industry thinking on blockchain.

Bernard is responsible for LIMRA’s overall operations in Europe, Middle East & Africa. Under Bernard’s leadership LIMRA Europe will deliver a market leading value proposition to better serve its membership. Bernard is an experienced insurance industry executive and consultant with over 20 years experience. 

During his career as an executive in the insurance industry, he served for more than ten years as CEO and Chairman of life insurance companies and Pension Funds in Poland, Portugal and Czech Republic. In 2003, Bernard Retali founded two companies in Barcelona: INOV Finance consulting company mainly dedicated to the insurance and bancassurance industry and INOV Insurance broker dedicated to the expat community based in Spain.

Since May 2017, Stefan Riedel is responsible for the insurance sector in Europe for IBM after being in charge for the insurance business in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Prior roles in IBM included leading positions in strategic outsourcing for all in industries in Germany as well as the insurance consulting area for IBM in Central and Eastern Europe. Stefan Riedel started his career in 1991 as a consultant, project leader and sales representative after obtaining his information management diploma. As a vintage from 1967, he is not a digital native, but passion and lot of commitment put him always at the pulse of time.

Alison Salka joined LIMRA in 2012 and led the member benefits and research division from April 2014 until April 2024. She was responsible for driving the strategy and direction of its global research program. As principal research consultant, she is focused on thought leadership designed to help companies better understand industry issues and trends. She is a frequent industry speaker and has testified before the Department of Labor. Before joining LIMRA, she worked at Prudential and MassMutual. She has a Master’s degree from the College of William and Mary and Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University.

Mr. Ayodapo Shoderu, Chairman and Founder of Man-Mountain & Company, a 33 year old company that ranks amongst the top 10 insurance brokers of Nigeria (out of 600), and which operates in both the UK and Nigeria. He left Nigeria at an early age to pursue advanced educational achievements that led to his matriculation as an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute(ACII) of London, Fellow of the Insurance Institute of Nigeria(FIIN) and Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Brokers(FCIB) of Nigeria. Because of his leadership role and exemplary practice of the profession he was elected in the year 2014 as the President of The Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers, a position of 2 years tenure. Man-Mountain & Company is the first indigenous company to be appointed in Nigeria as international intermediary of British United Provident Association (BUPA).

Lee-Han led the global and growth markets insurance industry consulting practices for IBM and now he is responsible for the European integrated insurance industry practice for IBM Global Business Services.

Gala Dinner  

The Palais Pallavicini right in the heart of Vienna, located prominently between the Imperial Palace and the Spanish Riding School, this architectural jewel combines baroque splendor and elegant classicism. The state rooms on the second floor were completely redesigned by Margrave Alfons Pallavicini between 1845 and 1850 and they can still be admired today in astonishingly good condition.

It is in this exceptional setting that we will celebrate together our elegant Gala Dinner and enjoy a most delightful Viennese opera show.
