WINDSOR, Conn., June 18, 2012 — Former United Kingdom (UK) Prime Minister Gordon Brown will be the keynote speaker at LIMRA’s Annual Conference on Oct. 28-30, in Chicago, Ill.

“With all of the economic upheaval in Europe and the implications this has on our industry worldwide, we are pleased to have Prime Minister Brown provide his insight to our members on the economic crisis of 2008, as well as his thoughtful analysis of today’s economic landscape,” said Robert Kerzner, president and CEO of LIMRA, LOMA and LL Global. “Today we live in a true global economy, so it is critical company leaders have a strong grasp of the political, economic and social issues throughout the world that could influence their business. For this reason, we engage world leaders and policy makers to speak at our conference, offering our members perspective when developing their company’s strategy.”

Brown was Great Britain’s 52nd prime minister from 2007 to May of 2010. Originally elected to the Parliament in 1983, he served as the Chancellor of the Exchequer (finance minister) from 1997 to 2007. Under his leadership as prime minister, Great Britain implemented many significant changes to health, education, defense, crime, energy and foreign policy.

During his keynote remarks, Brown will address how the protracted global economic crisis can be reversed — avoiding a decade of lost jobs and low growth — as world’s leaders think differently and work together to build a brighter future. Speaking both as someone who was in the room that led to some crucial decisions during the financial crisis in 2008, and as an expert renowned for his remarkable financial acumen, he will present a clear directive to the leaders attending on how to reshape business objectives to prevent future financial disasters.

With LIMRA’s 2012 Annual Conference theme, “Winning in a New Reality,” setting the tone for this year’s event, attendees can look forward to a program designed to address the many business and policy issues affecting the financial services industry today. Leaders who attend will gain strategic insights from experts on issues like distribution, product development, regulation and emerging markets. This year’s featured speakers will also offer guidance and leadership strategies to help top executives better recognize both the barriers to their long-term success and the solutions available to overcome them. Attendees will further benefit from the opportunity to network with industry peers in an environment that encourages an exchange of experiences and ideas.

LIMRA’s 96th Annual Conference will also feature a panel of industry CEOs discussing their strategies to overcome the current challenges facing their companies and the industry at large. Moderated by Robert Kerzner, the panel includes Robert H. Benmosche, president and chief executive officer, American International Group, Inc.; Roger W. Ferguson, Jr., president and chief executive officer, TIAA–CREF Financial Services; and James T. Morris, FSA, chairman and chief executive officer, Pacific Life Insurance.

LIMRA's Annual Conference typically draws more than 500 top executives from LIMRA member companies throughout the world.
