WINDSOR, Conn., Apr. 17, 2012 — Retired Army Gen. Stanley McChrystal, former commander of U.S. and International Forces in Afghanistan and Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC), will open the 2012 LIMRA Annual Conference, which will be held Oct. 28–30, 2012, in Chicago, Ill.

“We are honored to kick-off our annual conference listening to the remarkable and inspirational experiences of General McChrystal,” said Robert Kerzner, president and CEO of LIMRA, LOMA and LL Global. “In today’s business environment, leaders are facing unprecedented challenges in a harsh economic environment and are expected accomplish what often seems to be impossible. General McChrystal’s experience, successfully navigating the demanding and unfamiliar conditions in Iraq and Afghanistan, will offer our members new insight on how to address unparalleled challenges they face today.”

McChrystal is widely recognized for developing and implementing the counter-insurgency strategy in Afghanistan and for creating a comprehensive counter-terrorism organization that revolutionized the way military agencies interact and operate. His leadership of JSOC is credited with the 2003 capture of Saddam Hussein and the 2006 location and killing of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the leader of al-Qaeda in Iraq.

During his remarks, McChrystal will share with attendees his field-tested leadership lessons, stressing a uniquely inclusive model that focuses on building teams capable of relentlessly pursuing results. Citing stories from his career, McChrystal reveals a four-star management strategy, concentrating on openness, teamwork and forward-thinking.

The 2012 Annual Conference theme, “Winning in the New Reality,” focuses on how industry leaders can address today’s unmatched challenges to steer their organizations toward a successful path. All of the general session speakers and workshops will offer high-level strategy with hands–on tactics to help attendees address the various business and public policy issues affecting the financial services industry. The event offers a unique opportunity for attendees to share their experience and knowledge with their colleagues and counterparts. Leaders from the financial services industry who attend will gain strategic insights from experts on issues like distribution, product development, regulation and emerging markets.

LIMRA’s 96th Annual Conference will also feature a panel of industry CEOs discussing their strategies to overcome the current challenges facing their companies and the industry at large. Moderated by Robert Kerzner, the panel includes Robert H. Benmosche, president and chief executive officer, American International Group, Inc.; Roger W. Ferguson, Jr., president and chief executive officer, TIAA–CREF Financial Services; and James T. Morris, FSA, chairman and chief executive officer, Pacific Life Insurance.

LIMRA's Annual Conference typically draws more than 500 top executives from LIMRA member companies throughout the world.
