Thad Burr

Thad Burr has extensive business development, M&A, and business-turnaround experience. He has launched several start-up operations for companies expanding into new markets and countries. In Thad’s current role at LIMRA and LOMA, he leads the team of representatives in Latin America and the Caribbean, responsible for delivering member benefits. Previously, he was the Partner heading Mercer’s Latin America Retirement and Pensions Practice. Before that, he worked at Aetna, Inc., to expand their business in Latin America and the Caribbean, including health and dental benefits; life and disability insurance; health care technology and analytics; and health management solutions.

He joined Aetna from ACE Life, where he was Regional Division President for Latin America, and launched and managed the ACE life insurance business in nine countries in the region. Previously, he worked for MetLife, where he served in several leadership positions, including establishing and directing MetLife's Brazilian subsidiary.

She was selected as a member of the McKinsey Global Institute Council, where she has led numerous research efforts including on the Future of Work post COVID-19, the impact of COVID-19 on jobs, and gender equality. Kweilin has an MBA from Harvard Business School and a B.A. in Economics and Political Science, magna cum laude, from Harvard University.

Gloria is a Civil Engineer from the School of Engineering of Antioquia and a Specialist in Environmental Engineering from the Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana and in Earthquake Resistant Engineering from Universidad Eafit. She holds a Master's degree in Earthquake Resistant Engineering from the same university.  She joined Suramericana S.A. in 2004 and has since held the positions of Executive and Director of Business Businesses, Underwriting Manager, Property Manager, and Geosciences Manager. Previously, she worked as a Design Engineer and Director of the Geotechnics Department and Risk Management Department at Integral S.A. Currently, Gloria is a member of several Committees of the Colombian Association of Seismic Engineering (AIS) for the update of the Colombian Regulation of Earthquake Resistant Construction. Likewise, she has experience as a teacher and has participated in research projects with Universidad Eafit, Colciencias and Suramericana. In addition, she has made multiple technical publications from 1997 to date.

Ethel García Cueto has a passion for the development and implementation of new and challenging projects that allow her to use creative new solutions to build high-performance teams. She began her career at Grupo Nacional Provincial in 1980, where she spent ten years working with recruitment, selection, training and development of both administrative and sales force personnel. In 1991 she became General Director of the Instituto Mexicano Educativo de Seguros y Finanzas, a position she held until 2011 before returning GNP as the Deputy Director of Sales Development and Communications. She holds a Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Psychology and a Master's Degree in Human Development from the Ibero-American University, and has done post-graduate work at the Mexico Autonomous Institute of Technology in the area of Human Resources, Training and Organizational Development. She is also a graduate of the American College where she earned her LUTCF and CLI designations and is certified by the ROI International Institute as a Consultant in Evaluation and Measurement of Training Programs.

María Inés has 30 years of experience in the insurance industry. She received her degree as Professor of Mathematics and Physics and then studied Marketing at UCES. Throughout this time she has also continued with various Management and Insurance training from different institutions such as the UTDT and LIMRA and LOMA. She began her career in 1991 as an insurance administrator at a local AIG company and in 1996 was appointed Regional Head of Mass Business Underwriting for LATAM, working from AIG headquarters in NY. In 1997 she took on the challenge of assembling, from scratch, Mass Life insurance company in Argentina (of Mass Mutual), later assuming the position of Technical Manager. In 2003 the company was acquired by Swiss Medical Group and in 2010 she was appointed to her current position as General Manager of Swiss Medical Insurance, Life and Retirement. Since 2013 she has also been Director of the Swiss Medical Group Personal Insurance companies. She served two years as Vice President of AVIRA (Argentina’s Association of Life and Retirement Insurers), and has been President since 2020.

David Levenson is president and CEO for LIMRA and LOMA. In this capacity, he is responsible for leading one of the world’s largest associations of life insurance and financial services companies, representing 700 member organizations across 70 countries.

Prior to joining LIMRA and LOMA, Levenson was a principal at Edward Jones and served on its management committee from 2015-2018. He was responsible for all products distributed through its network of 17,000 advisors in the U.S. and Canada. Prior to 2012, Levenson was president of wealth management at The Hartford Financial Services Group, responsible for the firm’s individual annuity, individual life, mutual fund and retirement plan businesses. He also served as president and CEO of Hartford Life, KK in Tokyo, where he was responsible for leading the largest annuity provider in Japan.

Levenson holds his Bachelor of Science from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, his Master of Business Administration from Columbia Business School and a doctorate in business administration from The School of International Corporate Strategy at Hitotsubashi University in Tokyo, Japan.

For more than 25 years, Carlos has worked for in the insurance and banking sectors in several positions as officer in various insurance companies; most recently as director of AXA Corporate University leading a new distribution channel, overseeing 300 direct agents in two different cities.

He was Risk Management Director in Grupo Financiero Promex Finamex, and prior to this, he was an insurance agent for Grupo Nacional Provincial, holding important positions in sales and attending Conventions every year.

He served as co-Chair of AMIS´ Distribution Channels Committee, participated as a spokesperson promoting an insurance culture in national media in programs such as Fernanda Familiar, was a columnist for Forbes Magazine and was on TV for more than 2 years in Excelsior TV with journalist Rodrigo Pacheco.

Academically, Carlos has a degree in Business Administration from La Salle University, a degree in Psychology from the University of the Valley of Mexico, a Master´s Degree in Clinical Psychology and a Ph.D. in Neuropsychoanalysis from the Intercontinental University.

Norma has been General Director of AMIS since February 2021. Prior to AMIS she was President of the Insurance and Surety National Commission of Mexico (CNSF) where she supervised the Mexican insurance and surety markets. While at CNSF she also participated in the development and implementation of the New Mexican Insurance Law (LISF), a solvency II type framework, including the General Model for calculating the Solvency Capital Requirement.  Norma has participated on numerous national financial Commissions, served as President of the Latin American Association of Insurance Supervisors (ASSAL) and Chair of the Insurance and Private Pensions Committee (IPPC) for the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).  She has received numerous industry accolades including nomination of “Distinguished Fellow” by the International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS), "Distinguished Person" by ASSAL, and the Actuarial Recognition Medal from Anahuac University.  She holds an Actuarial degree, a Diploma in Applied Statistics and a Master's Degree in Administration from the Autonomous Technological Institute of Mexico (ITAM) and is a certified actuary by the Mexican College of Actuaries.

Alison Salka joined LIMRA and LOMA in 2012 and is responsible for determining and implementing the strategy and direction of its global research program. She oversees a team of more than 80 researchers and other staff professionals in the research division who conduct consumer research, benchmark studies, and white papers focused on helping member companies better understand industry issues and trends. She is also the director of the Secure Retirement Institute.

Salka previously led the retirement research and competitive intelligence team at Prudential, and was also a director of retirement research and business analytics at MassMutual. She has earned a Master’s degree and holds a doctorate.

Miguel Ángel Santos coordinates research projects oriented to the design of public policies associated with the development process with governments around the world, at both the national and sub-national levels.  Prior to working in international development, Miguel Angel worked for ten years in corporate finance and business development in Latin America, including positions as CFO, Telecommunications Division at Organización Cisneros, Head of Corporate Finance at Mercantil Servicios Financieros, and Vice-President of Sony Pictures and Entertainment Latin America.  Miguel Ángel holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Barcelona, a Master’s in Public Administration from the John. F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, and two Master's degrees in Economics from Universitat Pompeu Fabra, one in Economics and Finance and another in Finance and International Development.  He is also a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and was the Coordinator of the Macroeconomics team in the presidential campaign of Henrique Capriles Radonski during the 2012 Venezuelan elections.

He previously worked at BCG from 2000 to 2014.

Prior to DBS, Rick has held other senior management positions with AIA, AXA, and Manulife/John Hancock Financial Services.  Rick is recognized for his consistent track record of successfully growing financial service businesses and developing innovative digital distribution channels. He is passionate about serving customers better and has been a key business leader in DBS’ digital transformation and in its global recognition as the “World’s Best Digital Bank” and “World’s Best Bank”.  Originally from the US, Rick first moved to Singapore in 1991 and has lived in Hong Kong and Indonesia in addition to Singapore, his home since 2008.  He is a graduate from the University of Colorado USA with a Bachelor of Science in Finance and is a CLU, ChCF and CFP.   A passionate traveller and genuine ‘foodie’, Rick enjoys many outdoor sports including golf, fishing and long-distance running.  In addition to his personal interests Rick is involved in a number of fund-raising activities, committees and charitable organizations including Beyond Social Services, The Magical Light Foundation and Room to Read organization.

Mario joined Prudential Seguros México in April 2019 as Chairman and CEO of Prudential Insurance Mexico, reporting directly to Regional President LATAM. Prior to joining Prudential Insurance Mexico, he was the CEO of GNP Seguros during the previous 4 years. During that period, he led GNP Seguros to become the largest insurer in Mexico. In parallel to being GNP´s CEO, he was elected by his peers in the Insurance sector, as the President of the Mexican Association of Insurance Institutions (AMIS), from 2014 to 2017.

Prior to joining GNP Seguros, Mario worked for 15 years at Seguros Monterrey New York Life where he was initially the Executive Director of Operations, then became the Executive Director of Distribution, and finally was promoted to CEO and Chairman of Seguros Monterrey New York Life and Chairman of Fianzas Monterrey. He has a degree in Economics from Texas A&M University and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from IPADE, School of Business in Mexico.
