In insurance, partnerships between major digital companies and experienced insurers will drive a market transformation, opening up new opportunities worth over USD10 billion in insurance premiums over the coming five to ten years. In the presentation, we will take a deeper look at the nature and scale of the opportunity, frameworks for successful partnerships, and operational requirements to drive value, drawing on research and client experience across a broad range of digital players and insurers in Southeast Asia.

Anupam joined BCG in 2020 with extensive international experience in life, health and general (P&C) Insurance across Asia-Pacific, UK and Europe. He has advised leading insurers on digital strategy, distribution, customer propositions, and partnerships, and helped design and launch two digital insurers in Asia.  Prior to joining BCG Anupam worked with AIA in a wide range of areas including group strategy, health businesses, digital partnerships, and distribution. He also held the roles of Head of the Insurance Practice in Asia-Pacific at Oliver Wyman and Partner at McKinsey in Financial Services in London, as well as serving in senior Group strategy and Asia leadership roles at a multinational insurer.

Steven is a senior member of the BCG South East Asia insurance practice. He has over 15 years of experience and supports clients on a range of topics including growth strategy, product development and innovation, distribution and data analytics. While at BCG he has worked with leading insurers and reinsurers to lead a variety of projects including market entry strategies, agency and bancassurance distribution expansions, alternative product propositions in a low interest rate and changing regulatory environment, and the development of digital strategies.  Steven holds a Bachelor of Mathematics degree in Honours Actuarial Science, is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries, and a Chartered Financial Analyst. He co-authored the white paper Insurance Redefined – A Roadmap for Insurers & Insuretechs for the 2020 Singapore Fintech Festival.

Tjun is an expert in business model innovation, digital finance, and corporate and commercial banking who supports clients across Asia Pacific on a range of strategic and transformational programs. Examples of his experience include developing strategies and implementation plans for a number of Chinese conglomerates to enter the financial services industry; Advising a leading Hong Kong asset owner on starting-up, acquiring, and operating insurance businesses across Asia Pacific; Working with banks and insurers on digital innovation to co-create new ventures; And establishing a FinTech Hatch in Shanghai to innovate, incubate, and commercialize new ventures. Tjun has also co-authored many BCG publications and regularly writes for leading publications, such as Global Entrepreneur and Caijing.
