Father's Day is a celebration honoring fathers and the contribution they make to ensure their families are protected and provided for on a daily and long-term basis.  For many families, fathers not only help nurture their children's development but play an integral role in providing financial security for their families.

Findings from a new LIMRA middle market survey show that fathers think life insurance can play an important part of providing financial security for families.  According to the survey, 82 percent of fathers agree that most people should have life insurance.  Prior LIMRA research found that more than half of life insurance buyers purchased their policies to replace the income that their family relies on so they can remain financially stable in the event of an unexpected death.

This week, State Farm's Good Neighbors program highlights the story of professional football player Rob Sims, who shares how his father's life insurance policy protected the family from financial hardship when he suddenly passed away just one month after Rob was drafted.  Rob's father's life insurance policy even helped Rob's sister go to college and purchase her first home. Learning from his father's example, Rob has already taken steps to protect his own young family.

According to State Farm's 2013 Life Insurance survey, Rob is among the 71 percent of parents who consider it extremely important to have life insurance.  The survey also found that boys are most likely to turn to their fathers to first learn about life insurance. Rob's story helps illustrate the important role fathers have in educating their children and family on the importance of life insurance.
