Industry leaders convene in Chicago to examine and address needs of the increasingly complex retirement market

WINDSOR, Conn., March 12, 2014 — Richard Thaler, Ph.D.,  American economist and the Ralph and Dorothy Keller Distinguished Service Professor of Behavioral Science and Economics at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, will be the keynote speaker at the 2014 Retirement Industry Conference, which will be in Chicago, Ill on April 9-11, 2014.

"LIMRA Secure Retirement Institute research reveals that people believe that they should be saving 22 percent of their income, but fewer than ten percent actually do," said Alison Salka, corporate vice president and LIMRA Secure Retirement Institute Research director. "Dr. Thaler's work -particularly his work on automatic deferral rate escalation - identified a solution to help people act on their intention to save more. We are pleased to be able to offer our members the opportunity to hear about his latest research."

The 2014 Retirement Conference offers attendees a cross-sector view of the industry to help them understand the wide-range of issues facing the industry.  The event focuses on the latest market research, product development trends and innovative approaches to address the top challenges facing retirees and the industry as a whole.  Attendees will join top retirement leaders and practitioners as they discuss best practices about management, operations and marketing.

This year's event also features an executive panel, moderated by Robert A. Kerzner, president and chief executive officer, LIMRA, LOMA, and LL Global, Inc.  The panelists include: Tom P. Burns, chief distribution officer, Allianz Life Insurance Company of North America; James D. McCool, executive vice president, client solutions, Charles Schwab & Co., Inc; and Joseph F. Ready, executive vice president and director, Wells Fargo Institutional Retirement and Trust.

The annual Retirement Industry Conference event, hosted by LIMRA LOMA Secure Retirement Institute and the Society of Actuaries (SOA), attracts more than 400 retirement industry professionals from companies across the globe to gain insights on the latest industry developments and equip themselves with solutions to address the complex challenges they face every day.
