WINDSOR, Conn., March 7, 2016 — LIMRA today announced that Robert O’Neill, one of the most highly-decorated combat veterans, will address a general session of the LIMRA 2016 Annual Conference, which will be held Oct. 23–25, 2016, in Chicago.

“If there’s anybody perfectly suited to provide actionable insights into leadership, quick decision-making and operating in difficult and dangerous environments, it’s Rob O’Neill,” said Robert A. Kerzner, president and CEO, LIMRA, LOMA and LL Global Inc. “He’s able to speak from unique experiences in profoundly difficult situations, and I am pleased that he’s able to join us at our important 100th annual gathering this coming fall.”

O’Neill, a team leader with the Naval Special Warfare Development Group, was deployed more than a dozen times and held combat leadership roles in more than 400 combat missions in four different theaters of war. He has been decorated more than 52 times with honors.

In his remarks, he is expected to discuss the importance of critical decision-making. He also will talk about working in perilous and rapidly-evolving situations — and how these translate to financial services.

“The industry has some tough decisions to make in the immediate future, and there’s so much in Rob’s combat experiences that applies to the business world,” said Kerzner. “Working as a team, assessing risks, managing stress and preparing for whatever might come your way are just as critical to success in financial services as they are in war.”

Also at the meeting, 66th U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will deliver the opening keynote address. She will share her outlook on the global economy, as well as challenges and opportunities that might be faced as a result of the ever-changing geopolitical landscape including the rise of ISIS, democracy promotion and international sanctions.

The LIMRA Annual Conference is among the largest gatherings of executives representing all sectors of the financial services industry. This year’s event is an industry celebration, drawing together LIMRA’s stakeholders to commemorate the industry’s accomplishments over the past 100 years. The agenda is designed to offer attendees insights into the latest industry trends that could foretell future opportunities in the U.S. and worldwide.
