WINDSOR, Conn., Dec. 14, 2022 – LIMRA and LOMA promoted Marcelo Assuncao to regional CEO, leading member relations and business development for the association’s members in Latin America and the Caribbean. He will report directly to Paul Arrowsmith, president of LIMRA and LOMA International.
For more than 20 years, Assuncao has held various leadership positions within the insurance industry, including MetLife, Icatu Seguros and Marsh. Before joining LIMRA and LOMA in 2019, he served as strategic consultant of Aetna International for South America, where he was responsible for identifying business opportunities in the health insurance market.
“Despite the downturn prompted by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, life insurance premium and penetration in Latin America rebounded by double digits in 2021.1 Our research finds there is a great appetite for insurance protection among the expanding middle market, suggesting a big opportunity for companies in Latin America and the Caribbean,” said Arrowsmith. “Marcelo will be responsible for ensuring our members in this region have access to the LIMRA and LOMA insights and solutions necessary for our members to capitalize on this market opportunity. We are pleased to bring him on and confident he will be a tremendous asset to our organization and the industry.”
As the new regional CEO for Latin America and the Caribbean, Assuncao will lead the expansion and management of member relationships for life insurance and financial services companies and other organizations within the region. He and his team also will be responsible for developing a strategy to showcase the LIMRA and LOMA assessment and training solutions, as well as developing in-region convening events to provide market insights and networking opportunities for members.
For more than 100 years, LIMRA and LOMA have empowered our members through knowledge, insights, connections, and solutions to help them achieve their business goals and support the industry’s mission of helping consumers achieve financial security.
