WINDSOR, Conn., August 25, 2026 — LIMRA today announced that Jeffrey R. Brown, Ph.D., Larry Gies Family Professor of Business and Professor of Finance at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, has joined the LIMRA Retirement Income Institute as a new fellow. He joins a distinguished group of thought leaders dedicated to advancing research and insights that help Americans achieve financial security throughout retirement.
Brown is one of the nation's leading retirement economists, whose research over the past three decades has helped shape how academics, policymakers, and financial services professionals think about transforming retirement savings into guaranteed lifetime income. His work has been particularly influential in advancing the understanding of annuitization, longevity risk, and the value of protected retirement income solutions.
"Jeff has been a leading voice in advancing retirement income solutions," said Bryan Hodgens, senior vice president and head of LIMRA research. "His expertise will help further the LIMRA Retirement Income Institute’s mission to improve financial security and outcomes for retirees."
"I am honored to join the LIMRA Retirement Income Institute as a Fellow," said Brown. "As Americans increasingly shoulder responsibility for creating their own retirement security, it is more important than ever to bridge rigorous research with practical solutions. I look forward to contributing to the Institute's work and collaborating with fellow experts to help more individuals convert their savings into sustainable lifetime income."
In addition to his academic research, Brown recently completed a nine-year tenure as Dean of the Gies College of Business at the University of Illinois, where he led significant growth in innovative business education programs and research initiatives. His forthcoming book, Will My Money Last? Creating Lifelong Income to Turn Retirement Savings into Security, translates decades of retirement income research into practical guidance for retirees and the financial professionals who serve them.
Brown earned his Ph.D. in economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
